to take vocal lessons…. now where does one seek out this service?

Turns out that you can’t answer more than once.

As I was rambling, any music store is packed with ads from teachers.  There should be at least two at any given location.  Shopping for a teacher is tricky, as you won’t know how effective they are for weeks, so just go with someone who you won’t hate.

I know a female singer with a fine voice, but I don’t know if she teaches.  She’s very R&B, so it might not be your thing anyway.

I think Brian Vollmer still teaches Bel Canto, so you can learn from the lead singer of Helix if you’re willing to pay.  I have been tempted to take one lesson and insist that he just teach me to yell “GIMME AN R!  O!  C!  K!  WHAT DOES THAT SPELL?!  AND WHAT YOU GONNA DO?!”, but I don’t think that the Bel Canto repetoire supports that one yet.

All Conservatory locations will have reliable teachers, too.  I can’t say anything about their prices, but you can trust their staff for a decent base level of competence.

Reset, by roBurky.

I ran into this a few months back, but it didn’t occur to me to put it here until I was reminded. It’s essentially a videogame version of a music video. It lasts as long as its song does and matches its action to what happens in the music. I enjoy it quite a lot, and I hope you’ll take the four minutes or so to give it a try (it’s Windows-only, though). One note: try not to read too much on the download page until you’ve gone through once.
